SUMMARY:Lasers4EU Webinar: The use and impact of artificial intelligence in research and innovation\, 24 Sept 2026
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will look at how AI is becoming an integral part of the research process\, from accelerating discovery through intelligent data analysis to supporting researchers as a ‘scientific co-pilot’ in design and decision-making. The speakers will also address the practical and legal implications of this shift\, including licensing and data-sharing issues\, and concrete applications of machine learning in experimental physics. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The use and impact of artificial intelligence in research and innovation\nSpeakers and titles:Michael Bussmann (HZDR): The Use and Impact of AI in R&D\, and Creative Commons Licences in R&DSlav Ivanov (University of Strathclyde): The Scientific Copilot\, the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Design and DiscoveryBaptiste Fabre (CELIA): The Use of Machine Learning for the Photoionisation Analysis of Chiral MoleculesDate: Thursday\, 24 September 2026\, 14:30 – 16:30 CEST \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Watch the Lasers4EU Webinar

SUMMARY:Laserlab-Europe Talk | Inertial Fusion Energy: the quest for the optimum solid-state laser amplifier medium\, 28 October 2026
DESCRIPTION:Title: Inertial Fusion Energy: the quest for the optimum solid-state laser amplifier medium Speaker: Stéphane Reyné (CEA-CESTA) Date: Wednesday\,  28 October 2026\, 16:00 Central European Time (CET)  \n\n\n\n\nThe quest for an optimal solid-state laser amplifier medium for Inertial Fusion Energy has been investigated through a systematic analysis of more than a hundred optical materials\, including glasses\, single crystals and ceramics. This work emphasizes the intrinsic difficulty of simultaneously satisfying the key spectroscopic and thermo-mechanical requirements that ultimately govern both the selection of the gain medium and the overall architecture of an IFE driver. As no single material fully satisfies all performance criteria proposed in this paper\, material selection must inevitably rely on priority trade-offs driven by appropriate choices between spectroscopic and thermo-mechanical properties as key parameters. Beyond single crystals and glasses\, ceramic materials are identified as a promising technological pathway\, offering improved thermo-mechanical properties and the capability to fabricate larger-scale components with laser-grade optical quality. Several directions for future research are also identified. In particular\, co-doping approaches and composite material designs may provide additional degrees of freedom for optimizing both spectroscopic performance and thermo-mechanical stability. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Register here
